Magnets To Suit Every Need

Alnico magnets can be composed of many materials including copper, titanium, nickel, cobalt and aluminum. Made of hard and brittle material, sometimes Alnico can be tough to rework. You can have alnico manufactured in a number of shapes such as cylinders, horseshoes, blocks, discs, rings and rods. With high residual inductions and high energies alnico magnets are normally manufactured through sintering or casting. Processes where molten metal alloy is poured into a mold and processed through various heat-treated cycles is known as the casting process. Manufacturing magnets through sintering is a process where two main materials are combined and melted down until where they stick to each other. Sintering alnico results in a fine alnico powder that is then compacted in a press. Alnico magnets provide many benefits. In addition to being affordable and strong they can also resist extremely high temperatures and they are able to keep their magnetic qualities for a long period of time. The many benefits of using alnico magnets makes them a great choice for industrial and consumer applications..Strong Magnets

Ceramic magnets, also known as ceramic ferrite or ferrite magnets are extremely popular. The longevity and affordability of ceramic ferrite magnets contributes to their popularity. Ferrite magnets are classified as a permanent magnet because they can keep their magnetic qualities for long periods of time. Since they are manufactured at low costs they are ideal to be used for a number of different uses wither in your garage, shop, at work or at home. Ferrite magnets are made from a chemical that contains iron oxide and ceramic. The process for creating ceramic magnets is to press and sinter mixtures of magnetic powders and ceramic. Ceramic magnets are described as brittle and hard. Sintering is a method that is used to make objects from powder. The sintering process is completed by heating the materials in a furnace (but not to their melting point) until the particles of powder stick to each other.. Neodymium Magnets

Neodymium, a chemical element with the symbol Nd and atomic number 60 is used to create the neodymium magnet, a rare earth magnet. Neodymium easily tarnishes in the air and is a silvery, soft metal present in the ore minerals bastnasite and monazite. Preferred for certain applications, neodymium magnets are extremely strong and can perform in extreme conditions. It is the magnetic material of choice when maximum energy is required and can be used in maximum service temperatures of 125° to 150° C. Neodymium magnets are considerably stronger than ceramic ferrite or alnico magnets. The advantages to using neodymium magnets and other products made from neodymium are numerous. Despite its strength, affordability and popularity neodymium does have a couple of drawbacks. Unlike other rare earth magnets, such as samarium-cobalt, neodymium magnets have a low Curie temperature and as a result can’t perform in high temperatures, which means that it could lose its magnetism in environments that are too hot. Neodymium is one of the few magnets that can perform very well in extremely cold temperatures. Neodymium is less durable and more prone to scratching than other rare earth magnets because it is less resistant to oxidation, which means that it must have treatments applied in order to protect it. Neodymium can form cracks and easily corrodes because it is brittle, and as a result surface treatments of nickel, zinc, tin or gold are often applied as platings or coatings to protect the magnet. With a good plating or coating the problem of oxidation is minimized..

A very powerful type of flexible magnetic is a high energy strip magnet which is very resistant to oils and acid because of its nitrile rubber base. The stored energy in a magnet, otherwise called magnet performance or magnetic energy product is usually measured in megagaussoersteds (MGOe). Available in 1.1 – 1.6 MGOe, high energy strip magnets are more powerful than normal flexible magnetic strips. These magnetic strips come in a variety of sizes and shapes, have adhesive backing and are often laminated. Flexible magnetic strips truly are versatile. They will stick to any ferrous surface, can be cut to length, are available in a number of widths and are ideal for punching and laminating. Magnetic tape can be used in many different ways around your home, work or school. Magnetic tape can be used for many different purposes. The front of magnetic tape has an adhesive and the back has a magnet. Magnetic tape is thin, flexible, versatile and affordable, which makes it useful for a number of applications.

Block magnets in general are an extremely durable choice of magnet and tend to have high levels of magnetism, which make them perfect to use in industrial settings. Depending on the need the composition of your block magnet will differ, which is why you must consider the conditions and purpose for the magnet before you make a decision. A rare earth magnet like neodymium or samarium-cobalt is stronger than alnico and ceramic magnets, which means they will work well in industrial or heavy duty applications. In addition to magnet strength, also consider whether you need your block magnet to perform well in extremely high temperatures. If so, then you will want to take that into consideration when choosing the magnet type, as different magnets lose or maintain their magnetism at different temperatures. The type of magnet you will use will depend on your needs, but keep in mind how easy or difficult it is to demagnetize the magnet when you make your decision.
